Making Clickable Maps With Great Hover Over Effects

Posted by admin | Walk Around | Sunday 31 May 2009 3:20 pm

A great way for website owners to categorize their articles or posts or any information related to specific areas or states is to have a clickable map on your web site instead of a dull list of links on your page.

With the new JQuery plugin javascript techniques being developed across the net, it is now exciting to use image maps again. For instance the great jquery plugin MapHilight by David Lynch actually hilights areas of coordinates that are plotted in a way that can be easily edited.

Admittedly to create a great hover over effect requires attention to detail as far as plotting coordinates goes but it’s worth the effort as you can see in my demo of a clickable map of the Germany. Failing to make really tight coordinates can porduce undesired results…..that’s why I have created perfect map coordinates for counties and states for my latest clickable maps. Check out my clickable map of France and its states to see this effect.

OK so we have all the correct coordinates plotted to produce a great hover over effect, so now we need to have a nice map design for the map in question. This is also a tedious job for a webmaster to create and trace county borders…that’s why I have created layered photoshop images with all the state borders traced with the pen tool 1 pixel in black on a white background.

There you have it a ready made kit for making amazing clickable maps for your website or blog, usually at 600 pixels width perfect for most web pages. The whole process of making a clickable map like this from scratch is very time consuming and can be very expensive to pay a webmaster to create this and even worse days and weeks of your own precious time if you decide to make it yourself. Plotting tight coordinates for the 130 counties of the United Kingdom and Ireland clickable map took me two weeks to complete. See the splendid result at my website www.clickable maps.com.

Whenever you or your clients need a good quality clickable map of USA, EUROPE or ASA, I provide full downloadable editable photoshop image files complete with html code to simply cut and paste into your webpage. Save hours, days weeks of your time. Joomla users who have problems displaying image maps on their pages, I have a solution for that problem too. See me at my website www.clickablemaps.com. One crazy morning

Posted by admin | Walk Around | Sunday 31 May 2009 2:10 pm

One crazy afternoon I decided to help in the fight for global warming. I decided to become a LEED certified architect.

I dashed out of bed and found a place to register for the tests and pick up my study materials. After feeding the dogs and eating a quick breakfast, I jumped into the car and to my suprise found out the car was broken. I only had a few hours before the registration office closed and I need to fix the car quickly.

I searched for phoenix auto repair shops in the phone book but soon realized it was much quicker and easier to just jumb online and Google it. I found a place that looked reliable and well priced so I called them and they arranged the towing and offered a shuttle to come pick my up.It worked out great because I figured I could pick up my registration and study materials and go to a coffee shop with my laptop and begin my figh against the globall warming crisis.

However, when the shuttle dropped me off I realized I left my laptop bag at home. Well, maybe it was better because this way I coud just study and not have to worry about searching the internet and getting distracted. the car took most of the day to get fixed because I had them install a converter that made my engine get 50 mile per gallon.

So what an afternoon! Not only did I start the process to get LEED certified, I also made my car “greener”. To reward myself I went home and turned the AC on full blast!

Your Health and the Concerns with Black Mold Effects

Posted by admin | Walk Around | Sunday 31 May 2009 1:04 pm

Black mold poisoning is an arising dilemma in today’s urban areas. Numerous molds liberate mycotoxins in minute amounts for these black molds to grow, hidden, for years. These black mold effects bring out risky amounts of toxins and spores into our homes.

Abodes have become airtight and builders applied plastic and drywall to seal off walls. Because of that, black mold illnesses had risen rapidly because of the porous building materials used in our homes. These structures trapped the moisture and air flow is minimized. This is the perfect environment for black mold.

But while black molds can produce toxins, the molds as organisms are not deadly themselves. The poisonous waste discharged by black mold is named mycotoxins. The spores dry out and blend with dust. These are breathed in when they are in the air. The severe black mold effects on our health, nevertheless, requires superior levels of mycotoxins to induce illnesses like neurological impairment and even death, but it can be one of the reasons of Sick Building Syndrome (SBS).

Health-connected problems caused by black molds include repeated coughs, chronic wheezing, bronchitis, ear/nose/throat infections, continual sinus problems, sore throat, eye irritation, and even Sudden Death Syndrome. Furthermore, neurological damage, personality changes, memory loss, diarrhea, headaches, chronic fatigue, memory loss, and skin rashes are also found to be related to mycotoxins from black molds.

Black mold contamination has in the main been forgotten by the medical field. Do not push aside the problem of black mold effects. Black mold toxic poisoning is a tough problem that not only causes problems with our houses but also endangers our health in general.

Roots, Rock ‘n Blues – American Roots Music

Posted by admin | Walk Around | Saturday 30 May 2009 4:06 pm

I fell in love with American roots music while I was in college in the late 1960s. The irony of that is that I was born and grew up in the Washington, DC area and had to move to Minnesota to hear the blues for the first time!

I should say that it was in college that I first heard the blues played by the original artists. I’d been a big fan of the Rolling Stones and numerous other British Invasion groups who were all playing their versions of the blues, or derivatives thereof. I just had no idea at the time that they’d been so heavily influenced by a whole generation of musicians that I’d never heard of.

In the meantime, there were American musicians playing blues and blues-influenced rock to small, but devoted audiences. Three of my favorites (discovered for the most part years later) were Lonnie Mack, Albert Collins and Roy Buchanan. Lonnie Mack is best known for his radio hits, but is a killer blues player as I discovered much to my surprise when Alligator Records put out a video of a concert with Lonnie, Albert and Roy at Carnegie Hall in New York City from the early 1990s. The concert was called “Further On Down The Road” and was a real eye-opener for me when I first saw it. It’s still one of my favorite videos.

With the explosion of videos on the Internet, there is a wealth of blues video footage from the 1950s through today. It’s a blessing that so much still survives from the early days. Watching some of these legends perform helps make it clear just why they are legendary.

Mobility scooters and related equipment

Posted by admin | Walk Around | Saturday 30 May 2009 3:24 pm

Due to a rather picturesque array of neurological disorders, not to mention the increasing effects of advancing age, I have become considerably less mobile than I was in my younger days. Where I used to be able to effortlessly walk for many hours, I now move slowly at a snails pace, for a maximum of one hour, supporting myself with either a cane or a crutch – depending on how I happen to function that day. But I refuse to complain: there’s nothing I truly lack in this life, and diminished mobility doesn’t usually bother me.

However, for the longer distances I nowadays employ a mobility scooter, which kind of makes me feel like a prince or even a king! Relaxedly sitting in a comfortable seat, pleasantly but never arrogantly saluting the admiring passers-by, I buzz along at either walking pace or double speed. When I feel social I “walk”, when I really need to be somewhere in time I rev up the little machine.

There are many people much worse off than me, when it comes to mobility. I can, though with difficulty, still walk – but a lot of others can’t. Especially for them the electric scooter is a great help, enabling them to be mobile again. There are 3-wheel mobility scooters and 4-wheel mobility scooters, and if you happen to be considering buying such a machine, I certainly recommend the 3-wheeled variety. They tend to be considerably more manoeuvrable on account of their smaller turning radius, which is a definite advantage in crowded or narrow areas. I also would recommend to go for batteries with a large capacity: it’s not only unpleasant but also quite embarassing to find yourself out of juice when far away from home!

Apart from electrical scooters, there are many more things and inventions that make the life of the disabled much easier. Stairlifts, bed lifts, electric wheelchairs, walkers… they all help to make life much more normal for the handicapped.

Selecting the Right Cookware

Posted by admin | Walk Around | Saturday 30 May 2009 1:18 pm

There are many things that make a meal successful.  Experience, skill and creativity are pluses.  A good recipe and the right ingredients are also vital…

But if a meal doesn’t come out as expected, then it could be blamed on the tools used for preparing or cooking.

Just like a car should start immediately when the ignition key is turned on and take a person to where they want to go without any problems, so should a cookware set help cook food that will turn into a good meal.

Here are some of the things to look for in the right cookware:

Cooks Food Evenly

Cookware made with cheaper materials and are poorly designed may not heat up evenly so some portions of the food cook faster while other parts are still undone depending on where it’s placed.  Cookware such as the Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 10-1/4-Inch Skillet with Iron Handle is made of cast iron spreads out the heat evenly and retains temperature over time.

Cleans Easily

Cheaply made or non-coated cookware requires a good scrub to remove the residue left behind after cooking.  Teflon non stick coatings help by allowing food to be removed without having to dig it out, but in time the coating gets scratched off and no one knows for sure what the health consequences are.  Enamel, used on the Le Creuset Enamel-on-Steel 8-Quart Covered Stockpot, may be a safer alternative to use for keeping food from sticking and easier clean up.

Versatile

Usually, a meal may first need to be prepared in one piece of cookware such as a pan, then transferred over into something that can go into an oven and from there the cooked food is put on a serving plate.  Fortunately, for people who want to uncomplicated the process they can use cookware like the Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 5-1/2-Quart Round French Oven, that can go from the stove top, to the oven then directly onto the dinning table.  Another example is the Le Creuset Stoneware Petite Artichoke Casserole.

High quality cookware manufacturers have listened to what the home chef wants and have designed and made products that does the job well in the kitchen.   After all, cooking experience, skill and creativity deserve high performance cookware.

Is your personal debt out of control?

Posted by admin | Walk Around | Thursday 28 May 2009 1:00 pm

If you think your personal debt is out of control, it’s vital that you take steps to get your finances back on track as soon as possible.

Of course, ‘out of control’ can mean different things to different people. To one person, it might mean having more than a certain amount of unsecured debt; to another it might mean spending more than a certain amount on their monthly debt payments.

However you define it, if you’re feeling like this you should focus on reducing your level of debt in the shortest time possible. Depending on your financial situation (income, expenditure, level of debt, assets, etc.) and on your personality, you may choose to do this on your own or with some professional debt advice.

This article doesn’t go into the professional debt solutions that may be available (IVA or debt consolidaiton for example). It looks at how you can reduce your debts by overpaying them. Of course, this isn’t an option for everyone in debt: it’s only suitable for people who still have some money left in their monthly budget once they’ve spent everything they have to.

So, once you’ve accounted for your essential expenditure (mortgage/rent, energy bills, travel, food, etc.) and your payments to your unsecured debts (from credit cards and store cards to personal loans), you should know exactly how much extra you can afford to put towards your unsecured debts.

Start with the one charging the highest interest rate: £1,000 of debt on a credit card charging 20% will grow by £200 in a year, while £1,000 of debt on a loan charging 8% will grow by only £80. (It’s also important to make sure you’re actually allowed to overpay – some forms of credit will charge if you repay the debt more rapidly than originally agreed.)

It’s up to you to decide how much of your ’spare’ money you actually put towards your debts. Some people choose to put half of it towards their debt (and keep the other half for non-essential spending), while others might prefer to put every penny they can towards their debt – spending nothing at all on luxuries, but reducing their debt much faster.

If you really want to clear your debts, it’s well worth overpaying by as much as possible. The more you can overpay, the faster you’ll make progress – not just because you’re paying off the debt more rapidly, but because you’re paying it off before it can accrue interest. In other words, you’ll pay less interest in total as well as being out of debt faster.

Note: the latest figures from the Bank of England show that the UK’s personal debt is now almost £1.5 trillion (that’s 1,500,000,000,000 pounds), and over £230 billion (230,000,000,000 pounds) of that is unsecured debt.

2 Weight Loss Blunders Revealed

Posted by admin | Walk Around | Wednesday 27 May 2009 4:40 pm

So you are eating healthy and exercising regularly yet you still can’t get into your favorite pair of jeans. You start to wonder what it is that you are doing wrong. Maybe you need to exercise a little bit longer each day? Maybe you need to eat fewer calories? The truth is there are numerous factors which can affect your weight loss goals. In this article I will provide some of the common weight loss blunders.

For anyone who wants to lose weight fast, crash diets seem appealing. For instance, you eat nothing but cabbage soup for a few weeks and you drop 10 pounds. However, there is a down side to that type of dieting. When you cut your calories drastically your metabolism adjusts to that change. Once you have dropped the wanted weight and you resume your usual eating habits, your metabolism can no longer perform to its fullest capacity. It is only capable of burning these few calories which you were consuming before. That is one way that dieting takes a turn for the worse.

Skipping breakfast is another way that a lot of people cut out calories. They think that by missing this important meal they are improving their weight when in fact they are making it worse. By skipping breakfast they are driven by hunger and unplanned snacking for the remainder of the day. Often times, the snacks that we consume when we miss our breakfast are heavier in calories then our morning meal. So be sure to make breakfast a part of your daily routine. Furthermore, if you ever need to skip a meal during the day, try to purchase healthy whey protein shakes. They have no saturated fats, cholesterol or sodium. They are perfect for quick weight loss.
